As designers, we all know the value and reward that comes from great craft skills. In this intensive 3 hour workshop, you will learn basic bookbinding structures and stitch techniques. We will cover the basics of bookbinding including folding, stitching, and learning how to use a bone folder, awl, needle, and thread. You will leave with a Japanese Stab Binding and a Buttonhole Stitch that you created.
Workshop Price includes:
-
Light Breakfast
-
Keep all the tools used
-
Keep all books created
Each of these books can give you the knowledge to go on and create your own books for the future. Led by Wendy Shapiro, Creative Director at IBJ Media, over the course of a morning, you will gain a new skill along with a toolkit to continue your adventures in bookbinding. Handouts with instruction will be given during this hands-on class. A variety of papers will be provided for the bookmaking.
Please note that if you desire specialty or decorative paper for the covers of your books, you may bring your own on the day of the workshop. Specialty paper can be purchased online or locally at Dolphin Papers in Franklin. A thicker quality paper will be needed for the Buttonhole Stitch. The largest book size will be 8.5 x 5.5 and your specialty paper should be twice the width plus the thickness of the spine.
This workshop is the first of several craft-based workshops that AIGA Indy will be holding this year.
All supplies for this workshop will be provided unless you want to bring your own special paper.
