Describe yourself in one sentence.

I’m a teacher, caretaker, and practitioner of design thinking.

Where do you work?

I’m a visiting lecturer at the Herron School of art and design. I also own a design and screen-printing business called Burnish & Press.

Favorite program/tools to use for designing?

I like to use observation, field notes, Pencil, and Illustrator for sure.

Design hero?

When I first started designing my favorite was David Carson; all the destruction and grunge was great. I also love Aaron Draplin, the Man mountain, Erik Marinovich, Debbie Millman, the design thinking King, yes King! Chris Do, and Johnny Earle of (Johnny Cupcakes) those dudes are crazy. Some local people would be Josh Miles, Bob Ewing, and Byron Elliott.

Favorite thing to do outside of work?

My favorite things are dance parties with my girls in the leaving room. I also love vintage motorcycles, tinkering, and riding as much as I can. I like building and making just about anything. House projects are my exercise. My daughter Zella loves buying the “tool of the week” with me while working on projects.

Favorite place in Indy?

Good Morning Mamas, for breakfast. Fountain square hit up hotel tango for cocktails and dinner at Blue Beard, Newfields is fun too. The kids love the big numbers.

How and why did you get involved with AIGA?

I’ve been with AIGA since undergrad when my professor made us go to a meeting. It wasn’t that much fun. Just A bunch of old guys talking about design. Now I feel like I’ve become that old guy

When I moved back to Indiana and moved to Indianapolis, I didn’t know anyone. So I went to AIGA’s Shift, option, drink mixer. I met people that night that I’m still friends with today.

Approximately how long have you been involved with the organization?

Roughly 20years

What are you currently working on?

The T-shirt season is starting, and we just moved into a new house. My shop is not ready!

Any projects you want to highlight?

I’m working on a branding project for a Non-profit called the TransYouth Project. It’s still not done but it been a lot of fun.
